Unwatered
–
I wonder what could’ve been
if you had allowed love to take root.
If you had let it grow
through the cracks of the walls you built.
If you had paused long enough
to see how beautiful it might’ve been
once it bloomed.
Fragile, yet strong
twisting its way through the densest parts of you.
Brushing against the canopy of your darkness,
still choosing the light,
still reaching for the sun.
Love is a persistent one.
Insistent on flourishing
even in the most unlikely places-
willing to bend, stretch, adapt.
It asked for water.
A big ask for barren land,
yet still, it tried.
But you weren’t interested in seeing
what would become of the bud,
so you let us wither.
Petals fell
like dreams unrealized.
Barely kept alive
by something like desire
before being carried off
into the shadows
of what never had the chance to grow.
