I Would’ve Stayed

You framed your goodbye like protection,
but the more I reread the message,
the more it sounded like fear.

And in between the lines of
“I’m doing this for you,”
your insecurities lingered
like a quiet confession.

… but I was never looking for perfection.

So put that down.
Or at least
let me help you hold it.

Let me show you what I see:
a version of you
you don’t believe you can be.

I wish you knew
even your fears were safe here
with me.

I knew your truths from the start.
Our souls met somewhere deeper than language.
I think God whispered your name
before words were ever exchanged.

Fun fact:
I always knew we’d cross paths one day.

And when that day came,
our demons danced,
they laughed.

Even they need
somewhere soft to land.

But you mistook peace
for something temporary-
something beautiful, but not yours to keep.

So you left.

When I would have stayed
through the fear,
through the uncertainty,
through the parts of you
you didn’t know how to hold.

I would have stayed.

But you…
you chose to let go.
