Now and Laters

You felt like Chicago in ‘09.
I’m talking 50 cent juices,
and a bag of 25 cent frooties.

You’d be the blue one,
because those were my favorite.

And if I could go back,
I’d appreciate the moments with you more,
I’d savor it

like those giant freezees on a
hot summer day-
except this time
you wouldn’t melt away.

This time
maybe you’d stay
a little longer.

Can I add a quarter
to the meter of time?
Take me back.
You felt like home.

Like the excitement of
warm super doughnuts
for breakfast
and chips and cheese
from the corner store
after school.

What we had was familiar.
Another thing I’d never thought
I’d lose.

But as time would prove,
even the things you love
slip right through.

Life is not like
Now and Laters.

You don’t get both.

You think you have time,
but the truth is you don’t.

Before you know it,
the street lights come on…
and like you,
time is already gone.
