A Slow Thaw
–
And then it arrived.
Quietly.
Slowly.
The way the sun returns
just a little more each day
after long, grey winters.
After seasons of coldness
that felt like they’ve lasted a lifetime.
It didn’t question the icicles
that called her home.
It didn’t challenge the frost
that armored her heart.
It didn’t ask her to melt.
It didn’t rush the thaw.
It offered words that warmed,
actions that softened,
a presence that didn’t leave her bracing for impact.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing loud.
And then
Quietly,
Slowly,
warmth, for the first time,
stayed.
Spring didn’t ask her to leap.
It just arrived.
