A Love Unloved

I wonder what could’ve been

if you would’ve allowed for love to take root.

If you would’ve let it grow

through the cracks of the wall you put up.

If you would’ve stopped to consider

how beautiful it would be when it bloomed.

Fragile yet strong.

Twisting its way through the densest parts of you.

Encountering a canopy of your darkness,

yet seeing the light and choosing to reach for the sun.

Love is a persistent one.

Insistent on flourishing

even in the most unlikely of places-

always willing to bend, stretch, and adapt.

All it craves in return is to be watered.

A big ask for barren land,

yet, still, it tried.

But you weren’t interested in seeing

what would become of the bud,

so you let us wither.

Petals fell like dreams unrealized,

barely kept alive by mutual desire

before being blown away

into the shadows of what never had the opportunity to grow.
